Michelle E. Pence, Ph.D. The University of Texas of the Permian Basin 4301 E. University Boulevard Odessa, TX 79762 September 10th, 2014 To Whom It May Concern: I am writing on behalf of Ms. Terra James. Ms. James is currently serving as an Academic Coach for the department I head at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, and we have known each other professionally for three years. During this time, I have become acquainted with Ms. James as a reliable, intelligent, and thoroughly professional individual, and I can personally attest to her character and abilities. When I first met Terra, we were both attending a professional conference for the International Listening Association. Not only was Terra attending the conference, she was presenting her original research. Presenting at an international academic conference is no small fete for veteran scholars; for an undergraduate such as Ms. James was at the time, this was extraordinary. I attended her presentation and observed her to be a confident, well-organized, thoroughly prepared, and overall exemplary public speaker. Recently, when I was awarded the position as Area Coordinator for the Communication program at UTPB, I immediately contacted Terra to fill an open position as an Academic Coach. The qualities I first observed Terra to possess have endured. I frequently receive e-mails from faculty she is assigned to work with, all praising her professionalism, organization, reliability, and remarkable knowledge base. Beyond Terra’s exemplary performance, she is genuinely a joy to be acquainted with. She has frequently engaged me in intelligent and lively discussion, and her perspective is refreshing. Terra is thoughtful and sincere; not only an excellent colleague, but a truly outstanding young woman. In sum, I gladly stand behind Terra and attest to her deserving a position. If you have further questions or would like to contact me personally about this recommendation, feel free to email me at pence_m@utpb.edu. Sincerely, Michelle E. Pence, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Communication Area Coordinator for Communication
