This varied role involved being an Office Manager, in charge of all of the Doctors’ and other staff schedules, appointments and reporting in various departments including Haematology, Pain Unit, Occupational Health, Operating Theatre, Paediatrics and Trauma as well as being the sole agent for the Customer Information Department, which involved dealing with all manner of information requests from the public. The key challenge in this role was not only the variety of duties I had to undertake, but also often having to work under a highly pressurised environment, in Operating Theatre in particular. I also constantly received difficult requests from the public and patients, which I had to resolve without escalating to the medical staff whenever possible.

In this position, I gained excellent skills in not only initial customer contact, but also judging customer demeanor, and adjusting my approach in line with customer behavior.
