  At NSL, I was part of a 26 member team which solely deals in acoustics providing both consultancy and contracting services via the manufacture and installation of various noise control measures. The firm was able to offer acoustics consultancy services and also a dedicated design and build department when needed. These two parts were linked and worked closely together. I was heading the consultancy arm of the business providing the full range of acoustic consultancy services (environmental, planning, architectural, building services, industrial, commercial, vibration, testing, expert witness etc). However, I also assisted with the design of bespoke acoustic solutions in conjunction with the hardware department. Upon joining the firm I embarked on a complete re-branding of the business in order to bring it in line with the competition. I solely designed and procured a new website, refreshed the linkedn and twitter accounts in order to strengthen the social media presence of the company, redesigned the logo, designed and procured advertising material, reformatted the reports, letterhead, email signatures giving a fresh and dynamic look. I was heavily involved in business development and within a few months from joining I was bringing in around 35% of the turnover within the consultancy arm from a new clientele who had never heard of NSL before. I also assisted the company in becoming a sponsoring organization of the institute of acoustics, helped develop junior staff, assist with equipment procurement, training, education, CPD, quality assurance procedures and to provide a general improvement on the offering in the consultancy division.   I was the Head of Acoustics with multi-discipline engineering consultancy Peter Brett Associates (since made part of Stantec). I single handedly managed a team of 12 Acousticians based in three separate offices around the UK (and also established the Manchester office). The team had 5 members when I joined. I restructured the team and within a year, there were 12 members, the highest number of acousticians within PBA ever. In addition, the turnover was more than doubled, the team became profitable for the first time and the workload was diversified within the environmental sector and also started providing consultancy services within the buildings sector. I was directly responsible for technical, management, training, recruitment, equipment and software procurement, professional memberships, advertising, marketing, strategy and business development. I ensured that PBA became a sponsoring organization of the Institute of Acoustics and also promoted to a corporate member of the Association of Noise Consultants. I was also part of the board for the management of the environment group. I set up bespoke performance and monitoring resourcing regimes which will ensure the future viability of the team within the large multidisciplinary offering at PBA. Show less

  I joined Hann Tucker Associates (est 1971) in 2002 a month after a large number of directors and associates left the firm (after management buyout talks fell through). Due to this turn of events I was provided with an increased level of responsibility after an intense graduate training scheme. I was also fortunate to be selected by the owner (a brilliant engineer and great business man) as his protege. His mentoring helped me advance my career in a short space of time. With his assistance I rose quickly to Associate level and was part of the management board for 6 years. Due to the vast experience I accumulated in a short space of time, I was successful in my application to become a Chartered Engineer in 2008, a mere 6 years after graduation. I helped the company get back on its feet following the exodus of many experienced acousticians and gained invaluable knowledge and experience in the process. With my assistance, the company quickly hit critical mass and grown to surpass the turnover prior to 2002 in three years. I assisted with marketing efforts, recruitment, training and mentoring of junior members of staff. It was enjoyable to be at Hann Tucker Associates during that period as I managed to gain extensive experience throughout the company’s main fields of architectural, planning, mechanical services, transportation, environmental acoustics and vibration working on a huge variety of projects in the UK and internationally.
