During my week I shadowed various doctors and had the amazing opportunity to sit in on some clinics. I got to see first hand how the doctors deal with their patients and saw the wide variety of patients they treat. One clinic that I particularly enjoyed observing was the Minor Operations Clinic where I saw the doctor, after applying a local anesthetic, cut off a papilloma. I also had the opportunity to go on some home visits with the nurse. We went to two residential homes and one nursing home. This was a very interesting experience as the patients were much older than the ones I had seen earlier. I saw how the nurse approached and talked to her patients so that they could feel the most comfortable. During the week I also did some admin work and got to see how the filing system works within the GP practice and learned that it is a very detailed and finely tuned scheme. I also saw what goes on behind the scene in the reception where I helped organize various paperwork.
