I initially got to know Teddy from reading her articles about student loans, which were regularly published in several major media outlets. Being impressed with her in-depth knowledge of the subject, I reached out to her and invited her to become My College Planning Team’s managing editor and one of the financial aid presenters at the free college-planning workshops and webinars that our organization regularly hosts in communities throughout the Chicago area. After just a few months working with her, I noticed her leadership ability and promoted her to become our Director of Marketing, which required her to manage a team of three people and to regularly work with other leaders in our organization. She played a leading role in advancing our mission and I was quite impressed with her ability to handle some of our most challenging projects. Teddy also recruited several currently-employed school counselors to be part-time speakers for our college-planning events. As she developed relationships with these individuals, I watched as she gained a better understanding of the school counseling profession and became inspired to pursue the career herself. I believe Teddy’s deep knowledge of the college financial aid process will uniquely position her to support students and families with what can be a stressful and confusing college application journey. One of our organization’s recent focuses has been to help empower school counselors with this type of knowledge; schools need more counselors that have the type of financial aid insights that Teddy already possesses. Teddy was fully engaged in her work, kind and considerate toward others, and had a passion for helping our clients succeed with their college planning. I would highly recommend her for your Master’s program.

Teddy is one of the most adaptable people I've ever worked with. She entered a rapidly scaling startup and was tasked with writing across multiple subject areas with sometimes very little notice. As the company's strategy evolved, Teddy embraced change and shone as the student financing expert while also still writing well-reported and optimized pieces for the site and NerdWallet's media partners. She is generous with her time and is mindful of how to work effectively across functions. It was a pleasure collaborating with her, and I hope our paths cross again!

— Lead coverage of student loans and higher education for NerdWallet.com and the site's media partners, including the Associated Press and USA Today. — Owned the content strategy for the site's student loan refinance coverage. — Optimized content using SEO best practices, tracked and analyzed results, iterated accordingly. — Participated in an internal writer-editor program that gave me editing training and experience. — Worked with a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter on NerdWallet's investigative team to pitch, report and write a series about student loan scams and create a one-of-a-kind Student Loan Watch List to warn consumers about shady student debt relief outfits. Our work was cited by Sen. Elizabeth Warren in a September 2017 letter to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and came months before the Federal Trade Commission cracked down on several student debt relief companies. — Covered small-business financing and other personal finance topics including personal banking and consumer credit.
