Ted joined Carnarvon at a time when the company was struggling with a share price of sub 2 cents. During Ted's time at the company, several oil fields were discovered and brought into production in onshore Thailand and the Phoenix area permits in offshore Western Australia were acquired. These have recently been successful in finding significant volumes of high quality oil within lower Triassic reservoirs previously thought to be gas prone. He successfully negotiated the purchase of a 12.22% interest in the Harriet oil Fields and a 20% interest in the Woollybutt permits offshore Western Australia. Ted provided significant technical input to the expansion of the oil fields at Harriet and the successful discovery of oil at Woollybutt. • Managing Director
      • 1986 - 1995

In 1986 Ted and associates Eric Streitberg and Peter Lane formed the successful consulting firm Exploration Study Projects. The company advised major oil companies concerning acquisition of new assets, particularly Government gazettals in Australia. The company also assisted in capital raisings for smaller companies. Based on data and knowledge acquired during this time, the three associates of Exploration Study Projects founded the publicly listed company Discovery Petroleum. Later in 1995 Ted with Peter Lane formed the company Tap Oil later to be listed on the ASX in 1996. During this time Ted also consulted to a number of exploration companies in Australia building assets in Australia and elsewhere. Ted focused on the North West Shelf of Western Australia and was recognised as an "expert" specialising on offshore Western Australia. Whilst Ted focused on Western Australia, he also assisted companies in their exploration of South America, Indonesia, China, Thailand, New Zealand, North Sea and other basins of Australia, Through the establishment of the private company Global Oil Corporation, Ted became a part owner of three oil fields in the Jilin province of northern China. These fields comprised tight sandstone reservoirs covering extensive areas that were considered uneconomic at the time. With a reduction in drilling and operating costs these fields are now producing several thousand barrels of oil per day. Ted sold his share holding in the private company in 2012. On the listing of Tap Oil, Exploration study Projects was sold into Tap, giving the new company an extensive seismic and well database gathered from the many basin studies carried out.

Whilst in Canberra Ted assisted in a large sparker seismic survey covering the entire offshore margin of Australia.
