I had the opportunity to oversee the school-wide objectives in relation to mātauranga Māori, creating a culturally inclusive and responsive learning environment that supported all ākonga/students to achieve their academic potential. I was able to embed tangata whenua values within the school systems, policies and practices, to strengthen the bi-cultural confidence and competence of staff, ākonga and the Board of Trustees. These changes enabled us to partner more closely with whānau/family and provide an environment that reflected and celebrated te ao Māori across learning, social and cultural needs of ākonga. Director of Rugby and TeacherJan 2019 – Jan 2020Moving into the Director of Rugby role, alongside teaching the students, I introduced innovative sports programmes to motivate and engage with ākonga/students. My roles enabled me to develop both their sporting and academic capability, providing a learning journey that was supportive and embraced the values of the school and wider community.Housemaster Hadfield HouseJun 2014 – Jan 2019As leader for the boarding house, I oversaw the pastoral care for Years 9 through to 13, ensuring the hauora/wellbeing of all tamariki. I developed positive relationships with tamaraki and their whānau, providing them with academic support, developing their leadership capability, and initiating programmes that helped ensure their learning success. I also personally taught physical education, health, and junior maths programmes in the secondary schools sector.
