The goal of my position is to cultivate relationships with other students that may be interested in taking a course through Kaplan. I am not a sales person; simply a liaison between the company and the students to make sure the students are getting all of their questions answered and their needs met! I completed a paid 250-hour internship at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Center. I assisted Dr. Lynn Heasley’s research team in the Department of Craniofacial Biology. Using in vitro assays for cancer cell growth, I tested the sensitivity of 10 non-small cell lung cancer cell lines to Rapamycin and AZD8055 (two distinct mTOR inhibitors). My specific laboratory role involved plating each cell line in growth media at approximately 2,000 cells per well and then treating them with varying doses of Rapamycin and AZD8055. Additionally, I used AZD8055 because some Rapamycin-resistant MTOR pathways have been shown to be fully inhibited by AZD8055 (Chresta, Barry, Ian 2009).
