My role was to optimize generator outage scheduling with the objective of minimizing risk and financial loss. I conducted assessments (load flow and contingency assessments) to upcoming transmission system elements outages to find out their impact on grid and on OPG generation plants. Then, I gave recommendations to the plant groups on the optimal time to schedule generation outages from grid point of view, minimizing risk (operational and financial) on generation plants. During this process, I worked closely with the Transmission utility company (Hydro One) and System Operator company (IESO) to create an optimized generation and transmission outage schedule that would ensure grid reliability and security. 1) Three rotations in hydro- electric plant operations*Collaborated with outage management group to schedule generation outages *Created VBA tools to automate process of publishing water management reports*Site visits to hydro-electric generation plants and transmission stations (230 kV- 24 kV, 115kV-13.7 kV) and learning about their main components*Learning about hydro-electric plant operations including river management issues and procedures2) One rotation in the outage management*Conducted after the fact analysis to calculate energy and financial losses due to transmission and generation outages * Effectively communicated with the system operator to formulate post-contingency requirements for transmission and generation outages and delivered them to plant groups, ensuring power system reliability *Worked closely with IESO (system operator company) and plant groups to schedule generation outages, ensuring: 1) critical outages were approved by system operator on time 2) ensuring outage information (impact, duration, equipment) is accurately presented and 3) grid reliability concerns are addressed 3) One rotation in the electrical engineering group*) Performed arc flash assessment for a new distribution system using EASYPOWER software. The goal was to find fault levels in different buses in the system and the appropriate level of protective equipment so that workers can perform work safely4) One rotation in the electricity market day ahead planning group* Collaborated with team members to develop the best offer strategy for OPG generation in the Day Ahead market, given different conditions such as: forecasted temperature, forecasted electrical demand, generation outages, and transmission outages5) One rotation in the electricity market affairs group6) One rotation in the commercial contracts Show less

My role was to perform engineering assessments to study the impact of prospective renewable energy projects (Solar and Wind) on Hydro One's distribution system. I used CYME (Power System Analysis and Simulation Software) to conduct load flow and short circuit analysis to ensure that the distribution system can accommodate these renewable energy projects. Also, I liaised with internal and external stakeholders to update the list of substation capacity which provides information about the amount of renewable energy generation capacity that can be connected to Hydro One's owned substations. Furthermore, I organized training sessions for new interns and provided guidance and mentorship for them on various administrative department processes. Show less

My role was to test the functionality of a microcontroller in sending and receiving data for the purpose of using it as a smart grid meter. In order to achieve this goal, I used C language to program the microcontroller to communicate with an online server. In order to ensure successful operation, I tested system with different input signals and verified that correct data was sent to the online server.
