I have been assigned by the UNWTO as Tourism Quality Standard Expert to participate in tourism recovery program launched jointly by UNWTO, EBRD, MOTA to facilitate tourism recovery in aftermath of COVID-19 in EGYPT The project scope was to review the effectiveness of the operational tourism safety protocol including the following activities: 1. Review of the existing safety protocols prepared to enhance safety and security of the tourists and employees in a COVID-19 scenario, benchmarking of the current protocol against the the protocols of competitive destinations and recommend updates to align them with internationally accepted best practices. 2. Assess how effective the existing protocols have been so far in reducing and containing the spread of COVID-19. 3. Review and develop inspection mechanisms and KBIs to monitor the adherence of tourism enterprises to the protocol. 4. Capacity building of the MOTA Governmental inspectors on the updated safety protocol and inspection mechanisms. The National Project is launched by the Egyptian Government as a public and private sector cooperation to support the hotels and resorts in enhancing hygiene practices and controlling the risk while operating during pandemic.
