My leadership and teaching experiences have allowed me to make an impact on students at various points in their education. I believe my leadership style is very collegial and I make every effort to lead by example. It is important for me, as a leader, to be accessible, present and attentive. As a leader, I am responsible for the outcome of any initiative which makes it imperative that I be visible and use clear communication. I believe a strong curriculum will support the needs of all learners from the highest achieving to those who need the most support. I believe curriculum development includes the creation and implementation of grade level common assessments and the use of professional learning communities that include multiple disciplines. As Director of Student Services, one of my main goals was to improve student achievement. Through the implementation of co-teaching student test scores have improved. I have spent most of my career in districts where the majority of households come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. In that time, I worked in schools where the student population was primarily African-American and Latino. It is important to me to take the time to understand the backgrounds of all district stakeholders in order to create a safe, inviting environment fostering positive learning experiences. With a strong work ethic and a commitment to problem solving in a collegial manner, I have had success in motivating students, empowering teachers, and engaging the community. I have a variety of experiences and the ability to work cooperatively with all stakeholders. I believe it is important to promote the success of every student by educating the whole child as we prepare them for life-long learning.
