During my time at the ISDM, I built a virtual organization aimed at gender equality in Shamli district along with a team of 10 very diverse individuals. This has been a tremendous learning experience, both from an organizational- understanding standpoint and from working in teams, practicing ‘leadership’ where I was able to find spaces to practice and really enhance my understanding of value-based collaboration, inclusion, consensus-building, accountability through self-management and dealing with ambiguity. An amalgamation of my work during my bachelors, my passion for the sector and the perspective gained through the development leadership program was manifested in my stint at CRY organization (CRY India) Delhi. As a part of my residency, I also did a project with CRY India. The purpose of this project was to put together a holistic toolkit for CRY-Child Rights and You is to study a community, identify the main problem and recommend solutions. In this process we have attempted to create a process map and guideline that can be followed by any individual wanting to work in a community. A lot of time and effort gets wasted in this process and the community members are at a loss. Eventually this individual leaves not having made much difference in the lives of people living there. This breaks the people’s trust in volunteers and no development happens. Aiming to minimise this kind of time and energy loss and maximise result potential in such communities with the help of these tools. We have known them from just participants to individuals who have a desire to change their life. We went through a process of hearing people’s stories, conducting a survey, identifying, defining and analyzing a problem using systems thinking and other tools, and recommending solutions using program theory for the problem “Lack of awareness and knowledge among parents for accessing education opportunities for their children” A part of this project was also an education and life-skill support program for underprivileged children in slums of Noida.
