  • Camacho Activity Center
    • 34 Robert T Martinez Jr St, Austin, TX 78702
    • Activity Specialist
      • Jun 2015 - Aug 2016

During my time as an activity specialist for The Camacho Activity Center, I worked two summers as a guide and an instructional leader for youth outdoor recreation. Specifically, I was responsible for the well-being, the outdoor education, and the entertainment of up to 20 kids at a time as I took them to do things such as rock climbing, bike riding, kayaking, fishing, and caving. As the group went about its days, it was paramount that I kept all of the kids safe, but with the activities that children had the opportunity to do, injuries were inevitable. When those injuries did arise, I was responsible for treating the symptoms, managing forms and special conditions of the children, and consulting with management as well as parents to ensure the kids were healthy and happy. During my time as an activity specialist, I developed the ability to quickly adapt to situations, and I improved tremendously on the ability to fix mechanical problems with equipment in the field with limited resources. As a side note, I also became very proficient at the skills associated with many outdoor activities and the instruction to help others with those activities. Show less
