As a member of the Life Enrichment team, my responsibility is to develop and facilitate a variety of programs to promote the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the residents I serve. Each day is an opportunity to connect with the seniors who call Wynscape home, to provide them with a smile, conversation, or activity material to engage them in leisure. During this time of COVID-19, my job has changed quite dramatically, but what remains the same is my desire to do just as the department is named, enrich the lives of the residents. While this time has provided new challenges to overcome, more than ever the elderly need the one to one attention my department accounts for. Whether it's piecing together a jigsaw puzzle, playing piano, or just chatting, my role is to bring joy as the residents live out the remaining chapter of their lives. Show less

My role as an MHP for AID encompassed many responsibilities, all meant to provide therapeutic support and independence of individuals living with mental illness. Primary responsibilities included assisting clients with activities of daily living, developing coping skills, outlining goals and methods to achieve them, accompanying clients to appointments, providing clients with resources, and organizing client-centered groups promoting socialization and wellness. As a community mental health program, my position took me across DeKalb County, serving clients in need and providing them with mental healthcare in an accessible way. Show less

As an MHP for Ecker Center, I served individuals with mental illness living in a residential community. A primary responsibility included passing medications and promoting understanding of each medication's use, side effects, and dosage. I also provided opportunities for residents to engage in recreational groups and outings, with an emphasis on community involvement. As part of the Barnes and Noble team, my primary responsibility was to assist guests by making individualized recommendations based on their needs and interests. During my tenure, I had the opportunity to train new team members. I also became involved in merchandising and displays of product in order to promote sales. As an avid reader, my time spent as a bookseller was a pleasure, to be surrounded by books and to share the joy of reading with others. While completing a B.A. in Psychology, I had the opportunity to serve as an intern at a NAMI-DuPage, a fantastic resource and support for those living with mental illness and their loved ones. My primary responsibility was greeting guests who utilized the Living Room service offered by NAMI, a safe space for guests to seek support from a certified peer support specialist, an individual living with mental illness trained to serve and offer guidance during moments of crisis. I also assisted during NAMI's Community Center activities, including art therapy and jewelry making. Community Center activities offer guests a recreational and creative outlet, with mindful themes to encourage leisure, accomplishment, and a sense of community. My internship with NAMI allowed me to interact with individuals with a mental illness and their loved ones, deepening my understanding of mental health and how best to promote mental wellness.
