Tania was my Team Lead for my very first IB school visit. She approached my newness with compassion and mentored me in a positive manner. I later approached Tania (who is an experienced PYP coordinator and leader) to be my mentor in my first PYP coordinator role and she took an active role in connecting and supporting every month in that first year. She is a very knowledgeable and experienced IB practitioner and would be an asset in any school.

I knew of Tania Mansfield long before we met as IBEN Workshop Leaders. She is a well-known voice in the IB PYP Community. She is the author of https://learningtowearthebigshoes.wordpress.com/. I have been a big fan of her work on Student Agency and her work with Studio 5. As I led staff through Student Agency professional development, I referred my staff to read her writings. I was extremely fortunate to work closely with Tania Mansfield while leading the new IB Workshop Building For The Future. She was extremely collaborative and generous in sharing of her ideas and thoughts on the workshop. I learned a lot through our collaboration and took risks to give my workshop participants more opportunities to be agentic learners as a result.

At RAK (PYP) I was Deputy Head of School, Teaching, Learning & Innovation In my role as an instructional leader, my responsibilities included ensuring that there were academically rigorous and developmentally appropriate learning experiences in place that aligned with the school’s mission and vision statement as well as the IB philosophy. I worked alongside the PYPC and teaching teams to guide, support and coach instructional teams as they planned for their learners. I believe leaders should be visible and should be an integral figure in the operation of any school, as well as in developing all teaching and learning. I have had the privilege to have led our PYP team through a successful IB Evaluation process, have led and sat on Committees working towards our WASC accreditation, and have been part of the Leadership Committee for a joint CIS and BSME accreditation. As part of our self study process, we reflected on the effectiveness of our teaching and learning practices as well as the alignment and effectiveness of our school policies and leadership practices. I believe learning is maximized when there are strong organisational values and structures in place that include clear expectations, policies, procedures, as well as communication systems that articulate the avenues of support available to address the academic and pastoral care of our learners. In my current role, I work alongside parents, students, teachers, and support staff to ensure that the best support is provided for learning communities and their needs. I am a believer in using consistent systems to track student progress to ensure we have reliable forms of data, both quantitative and qualitative, that can be used to analyse the effectiveness of our teaching and learning practices and address the question of 'did learning happen because, or in spite of us?'
