  I had a studentship from MMM (MSM) at CSIR, Pretoria under the supervision of Mariette Conning and Pieter Roux (at CSIR) for both my honours and masters degrees in mechanical engineering through the University of Pretoria. I worked full time at the CSIR on a large project that formed the basis of my masters. The topic of which was in line with the goals and projects being completed within the Bio-mechanical platform at MMM. I also took part in several other projects within the department that involved the design of mechanical components.   I did vacation work as well as part time work at MMM (MSM) at CSIR, Pretoria under the supervision of Mariette Conning. I worked on several projects that involved mechanical design and also exposed me to the world of prostheses and mechatronics. I spent most of the year working on my final year project for my BEng (Mechanical) degree which formed part of the work within the Bio-mechanical platform. My project included the design, manufacturing, and testing of an inexpensive active prosthetic knee for above-the-knee amputees. Show less
