I am serving as a full time Teaching Ambassador Fellow (TAF) for the US Department of Education. In this second year of my fellowship I have had the wonderful experience as serving on the core team for Teach to Lead, a teacher leadership initiative which is overseen by a joint partnership of the Department of Education with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. I have had the honor of watching teachers across the country develop and implement projects that expand teacher leadership in our educational system. Additionally, as a TAF, I have the unique opportunity to work with a high performing team of teacher leaders who impact education by: (1) facilitating conversations among educators at the district, state and regional levels, so we can represent teachers' voices when contributing insights and knowledge about schools and classrooms to the US Department of Education to impact policy. (2) providing specific outreach to teachers, and increase their knowledge and understanding of federal education policies and programs and their critical interplay with state and local policies. (3) gaining knowledge of key Department initiatives and understanding how these intersect with state and local efforts. Show less
