I led the integration of Entergy Koch applications, infrastructure and processes within the existing Merrill Lynch setup. It was especially demanding aligning the slightly dissimilar cultures, requiring both assertiveness and tact to bring the merger to a successful conclusion. I acted as the main liaison with external vendors, exchanges and system operators to implement vendor third-party application, networking and infrastructure solutions used to support the Commodities Trading business. This involved collaborating with other internal teams as necessary or carrying out the full implementations on our own. I devised and setup the Commodities disaster recovery strategy ensuring that the Commodities 24*7 business remained fully operational through the process, something no other business within the bank needed to do. I introduced and setup monitoring of Commodities applications and infrastructure, allowing management and early warning of capacity issues in real time. I assisted the Metals Desk & Openlink implementation team, handling all their infrastructure and operational requirements through a very rapid startup. This leveraged my knowledge gained though the merger process of how to get things done equitably through the banks sometimes challenging bureaucratic processes, freeing up the team to focus on the implementation. I managed all the technical aspects of NETA (New Trading Arrangements) , collaborated and specified re-designs to the trading systems and fulfilled the demands on power notifications that NETA brought about. The business procedural reorganizations were very complex for both Trading and Production and the systems were delivered with only minor issues. It really did allow the business to continue to operate through the whole change process. I directed application enhancements to support power trading across the European markets. This was particularly challenging as each country seemed to take a slightly different approach to the scheduling side of the business. I designed and developed UK Gas and UK Power trade capture systems including position management, confirmations, settlements & risk management. The system included some nifty tools for pricing ad-hoc shapes for the Power Origination team as well as dealing with the front to back trade life cycle. Show less

I started my career as a cost accounts clerk, learning to program in 4GL systems using IBM/AS in my spare time. I then moved into IT and went on to develop applications working with bill of materials data to deliver Accounting and Purchasing systems, making considerable gains in productivity and accuracy.
