Kirsteene Phelan
I was Tai's direct manager at Blacklane and absolutely loved working with her. Firstly, she is an excellent leader of people; caring and conscious of managing continuous change in a way that keeps team members motivated and engaged. She is also an excellent instructional lead; her talent for training has been demonstrated broadly across her time at Blacklane, but most specifically in setting up our most geographically isolated team in a challenging timezone - and ensuring performance. Lastly, she is operationally pragmatic and flexible, willing to tackle unfamiliar topics and break new ground. She is a dedicated and tenacious leader, and was instrumental in setting up Blacklane's Customer Care hub in Brisbane. Using her varied skillset, she single-handedly trained, managed and scaled up a completely new team there. Through her servant leadership style, she built a highly engaged team around her, which helped carry Blacklane's operations through the COVID-19 pandemic. It's rare to find a leader that shows the amount of care and empathy for their team that Tai does, and yet, she did so while simultaneously driving performance. She was never afraid to get her hands dirty and stood with her team when faced with adverse situations. This made her well-respected among her reports and peers. She is dependable in every sense of the word, is a skilled communicator, and contributed to the positive and healthy cultural fabric of the department.
