  After completing my masters in Emergency Management, I have been providing consultation and advisory service to small and medium size manufacturing, distributions and sales businesses in preparation of the their overall safety and emergency preparedness planning. My recent project involves advisory services to a well-know local company engaged in manufacturing, distribution and sales of high-end consumer and office furniture. The project involved the following. • Assessment and Gap Analysis of the company’s current safety and emergency management systems (policy, procedures and practices) • Assessment and Gap Analysis of the current safety equipment and installations i.e. fire detection and suppression systems, Fire Exits, PPE used by the staff, protection from high noise, dust and other workplace hazards such as fires) • Surveys and observations of the staff activities to assess their knowledge and following of safe work practices. After the above preliminary work, I made following recommendations and developed and supported the management in implementation as follows: • Installation of fire detection and suppressions system in the manufacturing facilities • Installation of additional Fire Exits in the manufacturing factory • Development of safe working procedures and emergency response plans • Staff training and mock drills of the plans to make everyone familiar with roles and responsibilities during emergencies.
