> Activist group formed by more than 20 regional, national, and international NGOs positioned against the construction of a macro port on the south-west coast of Tenerife, in the center of a SAC, protected by the Natura Network 2000, whose project had been active more than 20 years. > Research group dedicated to the study of the population, presumed resident, of sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) of the archipelago of the Canary Islands. “Acción Cachalote” is currently analyzing the situation, to present a detailed plan to the Canary Island Government on how to deal with this problem, closely linked to collisions with boats in the canals between the islands. The goal is to make population aware of the fragility of these animals and that we must exert pressure to change the legislation on fast boats on the islands and the peninsula. Show less

Creation of Awareness Campaigns

> Creation of awareness campaigns for “Ocean Missions” (Iceland). Those campaigns are mainly about the different dangers that affect Skjálfandi Bay, with special emphasis on the problematics of microplastics and climate change. Currently working on the campaign “Protect the Puffins” to regulate the hunting of puffins (Fratercula arctica), an endangered species that is threatened by wholesale as a "traditional dish". > Creación de campañas de concienciación para “Ocean Missions” (Islandia). Dichas campañas tratan principalmente sobre los diferentes peligros que afectan a la bahía de Skjálfandi, con especial énfasis en la problemática de los microplásticos y el cambio climático. Actualmente se trabaja en la campaña “Protege a los frailecillos” para regular la caza de frailecillos (Fratercula arctica), una especie en peligro de extinción que se encuentra amenazada por la venta al por mayor como “plato tradicional”. Internship at the Húsavík Research Centre (Iceland); cetacean photo-ID, distribution and behavior. Joining a minimum of 5 whale watching trip per week, collecting sightings, behavior and photo-ID data. Processing photo ID data and maintenance of the photo-ID catalogues. Collaboration with other projects including cetacean acoustics, drone monitoring and sampling stranded animals. Internship at the Húsavík Research Centre (Iceland); cetacean photo-ID, distribution and behavior. Divina Guadalupe VI, Guadalupe Island, México. Co-researcher in coordination with the CONANP’s (Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas) investigators for the "Cuvier’s Beaked Whales and other cetaceans of Guadalupe Island" project. The aim of our project was to collect ecological data of cetaceans in this area of the Mexican Pacific through techniques such as visual survey, photo identification, sampling of skin and bubbler, acoustic monitoring, and satellite telemetry. Milagro VI, San Felipe, México. Responsible for all the scientific analysis and samplings during the retrieval of illegal nets form the Vaquita’s Refuge. Animal manipulation, identification, and releasing, as well as in charge of all the data of the nets, sightings, and poachers monitoring of the ship. Show less
