Klaus Bieling
I got to know Sylvia as a highly competent and committed Finance professional, not afraid of any challenge, who basically immediately upon her arrival was able to effect crucial improvements in the processes and the quality of the work of OCL’s Finance department. She also demonstrated great leadership and social skills in leading her team through a time of significant change for OCL, and she was a crucial contributor to OCL’s organizational development under challenging circumstances. I enjoyed every minute of working with Sylvia and knew I could fully rely on her at any time. I would absolutely look forward to work with her again in future if the opportunity arises.
Marianne LeTart
Sylvia was my manager while at OCL. She came in at a very challenging time when the business was in the process of being acquired by two different companies. Sylvia provided structure and discipline to our month end close process helping us reduce the number of days to close from at least 15 down to 5 or better. She worked well with other department managers and recommended synergies wherever needed. In spite of how busy Sylvia was during her tenure at OCL, she always made herself available for questions or clarifications. I enjoyed working for Sylvia and was sorry to see her go.

2019 - 2020
Bertelmann Inc. (a German Company) purchased the private equity firm, Oncourse learning (OCL), in November of 2018. They integrated about one half of OCL – the nursing division – into one of their subsidiaries, Relias. After I started at OCL, we split the remaining divisions of OCL – Real Estate and Financial Services into two separate legal entities as of Feb. 1, 2019 and then prepped them for sale. With just a few months to accomplish this task, Bertelsmann sold the two entities to Adtalem (which owns Becker) on May 31 and Life Long Learners (PSI) on June 23 – within one month of each other. Up to that point, all divisions were very integrated under one roof, being OCL. There was extensive work behind the splitting up of the companies and establishing separate entities, including setting up full entity balance sheets, stand-alone bank payments and accounting for cash receipts accurately to correct firm. My role as Controller was to lead the team of approx. 8 people as well as roll up my sleeves to achieve the sales of these firms. I played a pivotal role very in researching and providing answers to due diligence questions and working as part of the M&A team. We also implemented a revision of the sales tax accounting in our ERP system with Avalara. For AR, we implemented Anytime Collect, or ATC and we had several customer facing portal changes which had big implications for accounting that we dealt with. Show less

Finance Director - Huf North Americas

Apr 2011 - 2018
Huf is a German Auto Parts Manufacturer. I led a team of 5 employees in accounting in the USA and I supported the Controller in Mexico in accounting activities. Special Projects at Huf: -I implemented the Automated ACH payments process to reduce time and errors in manually processing payments online or via check. We were able to pay over 90% via ACH vs check within 6 months, resulting in a savings of an estimated $10k per annum in personnel costs. -We also implemented a purchase requisition process. The system used was created internally by our IT and it mostly captured our approval process and status indicator which saved a lot of time for initiators, approvers and accounting. -Led the Concur Expense Report project. This project as well stream-lined mainly the approval process and seamless integration into the Baan ERP system. -I was an integral part for preparing the Opening Balance Sheet of the new Die Cast firm and setting up bank accounts, lines of credits, separate AP and AR processes, reporting, etc. -During my time at Huf, we built a $20M+ paint plant in TN. -Due to the transition of the US Accounting to Huf in Mexico, I led the paperless project for AP. Director Of Finance - Headquarters

2001 - 2003
Managed an accounting department of three at Utimaco’s Headquarters reporting to CFO. Since it was right at the 9-11 market crash, this was a critical time for the company in terms of cash and funding, so the major focus was on cash management to keep the company attractive for investors. This company was public and I was involved with the annual report. Managed an accounting department of three at Utimaco’s Headquarters reporting to CFO.
