  Our Own English High School (OOL) is the only GEMS School in the Al Ain region of Abu Dhabi offering both the CBSE and IGCSE Curricula to students from over 29 nationalities. During his tenure Sydney worked strategically to meet previous ADEK inspection recommendations and establish systems for sustained improvement. In the 2018 ADEK inspection the school secured a ‘Good’ rating with improvements in 33 inspection parameters in the areas of students' achievement, students' personal and social skills, teaching and assessment, and curriculum. Some highlights of his Leadership at OOL include; 10% increase in student attendance in 2019-20 through positive student-faculty relationships and instituting a rigorous follow up system Establishing and leading an action research team that was able to increase students reading at grade level by 9% in the Primary school through the implementation of a reading program and training teachers in the use of reading strategies Coordinating curriculum mapping for all core content areas to boost the quality of education and to align with UAE National Agenda plans and expectations. This led to improvements in students' internal and external examination results. Developing and implementing a strategic school-wide plan for the use of assessment data Developing and implementing a ‘Teacher Development Plan’ to raise standards in teaching. Over two years the % of teachers rated ‘good’ moved from 50 % to 64% Ensuring 100% teachers develop the skills to integrate educational technology in everyday lessons Leading the ‘My Identity’ inspection for the school.
