With the support of the Center for Climate Integrity, I worked on several projects related to sea-level rise. I co-authored an amicus brief for several sea-level rise lawsuit appeals in California. This brief summarizes the up-to-date climate and sea-level rise science that’s pertinent to the court cases and was submitted to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in January 2019. Following the completion of the brief, I teamed up with Resilient Analytics, an engineering firm specializing in climate change adaptation, to produce the first ever estimate of the cost to protect the entire Lower 48 from sea-level rise. The report I co-authored (High Tide Tax) can be found on our project website, climatecosts2040.org. Show less

I processed natural carbon samples in the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry graphite lab for carbon-14 analysis. In addition to technical duties, I investigated radiocarbon constraints on fossil thinolite formation in the Mono Basin, an rare mineral that requires extreme cold-water temperatures to form. We transported guests from Homer to Halibut Cove, with a brief layover at Gull Island, a rookery home to ~20,000 nesting seabirds. In addition to cleaning and maintaining the boat, I also served as a naturalist, delivering talks about Kachemak Bay and Gull Island. I worked as the deckhand on a 1940 WWII J-boat named the Danny J.
