Starting out as a substitute, did variety of duties in a variety of schools before securing a long term sub assignment 2018/2019. Secured a few permanent hours the 2019/2020 school year and built contract work into my schedule. At the time of the COVID shut down March 2020 I had built a full schedule as a crossing guard, one on one student support, recess/play ground supervisor, and high cap classroom support. A typical schedule for a Shoreline para educator is built in 1 hour segments of permanent and contract hours doing a variety of work. Requires good time management, a positive "can do" attitude, ability to change tasks efficiently, patience, organic kindness, and good communication skills. The "nuts and bolts" of actual duties are fairly simple but ease in the previously mentioned areas are key. My strength in a few areas emerged quickly. I enjoy helping kids who struggle with social/emotional and behaviour issues and working with teachers and administrators implementing support services and tools. For example, the zones of regulation concept and tools surrounding it helped students self regulate. Student need for self regulation seemed to be something I had a 6th sense for. It came easy to identify very early when a student was getting triggered, agitated, emotional, etc and help them before most anyone else was sensing it including the student. Another area of strength was conflict resolution between students and teaching them tools to work it out by themselves. Working in salon and retail industries has given me an authentic ease with people of all ages. My cosmetology instructor experience has been tremendously helpful in the classroom. I continued during the shutdown providing learning support to my high school senior daughter who is on the autism spectrum. I attended all of her virtual classes and got familiar with high school learning support including study skills class. She graduated with a 3.25 and starts tech college in September. Show less

Amazon Prime Fresh Grocery Fulfillment Center stowing freight and order fulfillment. Order picking of grocery items in a warehouse setting both ambient and refrigerated. Fast paced, time sensitive, and productivity focused while maintaining quality standards. Performed to company productivity standard. Stowing of products in ambient and refrigerated sections. Quality control and inventory control projects assigned by supervisors. Productivity and performance focused meeting and exceeding goals and company standard proficiently. Would have liked to do more or advanced to supervisor in this area. Previous experience sorting freight made this an area of strength. Particularly did well in refrigerator as cold temp didn't bother me at all but did not do well in the freezer. Actually became interested in meat and dairy departments in regards to quality, organization, and inventory control. The technology was a bit of a challenge at first but adapted after a few weeks. Automated and tech driven/controlled system was very intriguing. I ended up very interested and curious about the algorithms and systems behind productivity and inventory control. Impressive once I got adjusted from previous experience with analog systems of inventory control. Had to leave due to COVID cases at facility and family member in high risk category. Would consider returning for part-time and seasonal work in addition to a school district job. Very Interested in full time grocery work, inventory control, merchandising and warehouse receiving work that isn't 10 hour shifts. Show less

Cosmoprof is a licensed only retail beauty supplier providing licensed cosmetology, barber, esthetician and nail techs with supplies and product education. Additional duties include inventory and freight management, merchandising via plano guide, and promotion of vendor continuing education classes. During my time working here, it was a very busy high volume store with a very quick pace. Attention to accuracy, exceeding sales goals, and exceptional customer experience were the focus. My primary role on the team, other than great customer service, was sorting freight and answering technical questions about chemical product lines (color, perms, texture services, etc). Developed strong ability to upsell wet line and color promo deals/starter packages and salon furniture. Towards the end of my 3 years with this company, our team experienced the challenge of rebuilding the business after a fire shut the store down. The fire was a total loss and the store was relocated 2 months later resulting in a big shift of it's customer base to competitors. While it was a difficult experience to go through, the biggest take-away was how much resiliency and determination can be cultivated in a strong team that supports each other. A manager will need the strength of their team to support them in challenging times and they will get a clear reflection of themselves as a leader by the team members supporting them. Previous experience in a management role provided a good learning experience here on how to become a better leader and how to be a better associate as well as train better associates. I left this job for a different line of work with better pay but this is still one of my favorite jobs. If the pay was better than minimum wage and opportunities for advancement were available I would have stayed. Show less
