Seven Peaks School and Cascade School of Music

  I started the Band Program at Seven Peaks School in 2007. No program had existed before then. Band is offered to Grades 4-8 two days per week. Seven Peaks total enrollment, K-8, hovers around 256, which leaves about 156 kids in grades 4-8. We began with 16 kids in 2007 and now have around 60 kids, around 30% participation! We have increased our skills, from performing Grade 1 music in the first couple of years in the Upper Band (Int. 6th/7/8), to Grade 3 music in 2010. That's a very acceptable level for this age group, given our class meetings are only two days a week. At Cascade School of Music, we started the Awesome After School Band in 2007, for Grades 4-5, open to any child in the Bend-LaPine District. This year, I started the High Noon Brass Band for older students. It meets Wednesdays, at High Noon. We are a hybrid group, performing brass ensemble literature as well as brass band rep.
