  I was appointed to this Commission while on the St. George City Council and as the Chair of the Dixie MPO. I was the representative for the Southern Utah area; my charge was to keep abreast of issues affecting seniors' abilities to get to the places they needed to go and help find solutions. The Suntran mass transit system, federally funded when we became an MPO, became a major player for the seniors and those with handicaps.   Serving on our City Council was a full time, part time job. I was assigned to work with the Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustments, the Arts Commission, Dixie Care and Share and The Transportation Improvement Planning group. I worked with all departments, especially the Planning Department and Engineering. I was elected to the Utah League of Cities and Towns board of directors which entailed numerous other committees to make policy to work with our state legislature. Chairing our city's first Metropolitan Planning Organization also meant attending State Transportation Planning. We worked to make a 30 year Transportation Improvement Plan and then worked to obtain funding for the projects as they were prioritized. We held the first Transportation Information Fairs, charrettes neighborhood meetings to hear the concerns and wishes of residents. Show less

  I was appointed by the mayor to fill a seat on the Planning Commission because of my involvement in the community and my developing neighborhood. I held this position after being elected to the City Council until 2005. During this time we were the first city in Utah to develop and implement a city general plan, looking at all possibilities of growth in our city. At the time we accomplished this, we were ranked the fastest growing city in America. The plan was written to be constantly improved and reviewed and open to public comment. These pieces are changed out yearly and are a draw to the community.
