I conducted object driven research on collections from within and outside the museum in preparation for two upcoming exhibitions. These included a pan-Asian study of Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity, and an extensive show centered around Buddhist art objects, especially the mandala. Under the guidance of the Associate Curator of Asian Arts, I learned about exhibition design, administration, effective museum pedagogy, and museum-based publications. Through the Fulbright Foreign Students Program, I had an opportunity to pursue a master's degree in art history at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The program connected me with numerous scholars from all around the globe working at the cutting edge of their fields, including fellow Fulbrighters, alumni, art historians, conservators, and museum curators. Art history as an emerging discipline in Nepal presents great prospects, both in academia and practice. Particularly relevant are its subfields like heritage studies, preservation, and museum studies. The Fulbright program enabled me to engage further with these fields. I look forward to applying my knowledge and experience for the betterment of Nepali art history and the discipline at large.
