Candide is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal based at the Department of Architecture Theory, RWTH Aachen University. It was fonded by Axel Sowa and Susanne Schindler, and later editors included Andres Lepik, Anne Kockelkorn, and Lutz Robbers. Not unlike Voltaire’s fictional character Candide, who traveled the eighteenth-century world on an eager but often disappointed search for knowledge, the journal’s editors have embarked on a twenty-first century search, in their case, of architectural knowledge. Candide is released twice a year in English and German. The print version of Candide has been designed by Katja Gretzinger (issues 1–5) and Benjamin Critton (6–9), and distributed by Transcript, Actar, and Hatje Cantz.
