    • Substitute Teacher
      • Nov 2016 - May 2017

As a Substitute Teacher, I am always on the go, sometimes for last minute assignments. I enjoy the spontaneity of the job and being given the opportunity to explore eight different schools in the district. I have met wonderful teachers and administrators who have shared the joys of teaching and tips for the future. I have also met with an array of students from kindergarten to 12th grade who have unknowingly been teaching me about classroom management strategies, anchor activities, and why positive environments are so vital.

    • Student Teacher
      • Jan 2016 - May 2016

I taught alongside a well established English teacher in first 7th grade and then 11th and 12th grade; each experience lasting 2 months. The middle and high school were in separate districts, but were rural. I highly enjoyed teaching units on Scott O'dell's, "The Black Pearl" and "Peak" by Roland Smith. These choices transformed the classroom into a beach vacation and a grueling Everest journey. I also taught both the popular "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Macbeth" which brought about political discussions on current events and I also a dramatic theater atmosphere. Lastly, I had the formidable task of teaching a Common Core Unit on genocide through use of a Web Quest and Eli Wiesel's "Night." Although an emotionally difficult unit, students connected to the larger issues facing the world today.
