I am a fully qualified teacher (QTS) and it was good to use this qualification and skills to deliver high quality teaching and experience. As a result of my work as a singing teacher and leading workshops, I was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. This was due to my collecting and using World music in my workshops. I taught a variety of abilities and ages, and all of the pupils had plenty of opportunities to perform - either in concerts I arranged; within choirs or Festivals. During this time I arranged a number of singing workshops in schools and community organisations. Some workshops were funded by the Millennium Fund and ACE and either provided school children with good quality musical opportunities, or for communities to build up friendships. There were also a number of adult singing workshops for community organisations and for community events. All of my pupils did really well, but notable pupils won Choral Scholarships to Cambridge; competed in BBC 1's Star for a Night and one pupil was in the Final of The BBC Young Chorister of the year: over 300 girls applied and she was one in the final. I had 100% pass rate for examinations, and plenty received Distinction. I also mentored young people wishing to go into the music profession as well as being on the Music in Education Committee of the Incorporated Society of Musicians. Show less
