http://www.friendsnclbph.org/ The Friends is a volunteer-based organization that provides support to the NCLBPH. Through fundraising efforts and bequests, the Friends are able to provide enhanced support to existing Library programs and engage in projects and advocacy designed to engage and support the vision community. Literacy is what the Library is all about and the Friends support that cause wholeheartedly. The Friends enhance library services beyond what the State budget provides annually. All donations to the Friends are tax deductible. The purpose of this organization is to promote the development of excellent library service to the citizens of our state who have blindness or physical disabilities, and to support programs of the library. Additionally we foster relations between the library and NC citizens, promote knowledge of the library's services/resources, provide the means for patrons to exchange ideas, information and experience.

The SALT Block Foundation (SBF) is responsible for overseeing the operation of the SALT Block and provides the lion's share of the occupancy costs for the residents of the SALT Block: Catawba Science Center, Hickory Choral Society, Hickory Museum of Art, United Arts Council and Western Piedmont Symphony. The beauty of this arrangement is that the Foundation funds the vast majority of generic building issues - things like utilities, building & grounds maintenance, capital replacement, building management, and security - leaving the resident organizations free to do what they do best: providing the wonderful programs, exhibits, and activities that enhance our area's quality of life.

Camp Dogwood is a recreational facility serving adults and youth with blindness or severe visual impairment. We offer a recreation/vacation experience to people that may not otherwise have this opportunity. We are located on Lake Norman, and our activities include boating, swimming, fishing, tubing, water skiing, art lessons, crafts, shopping excursions, bowling excursions, and creative seminars. In addition to staffing the various activities, our staff serves as sighted guides, assist meal service, and in any other capacity that helps to insure the goal of providing a week of fun and fellowship for our guests. We are the only facility of this kind in North Carolina. Our campers range in age from 11 to 100+ years old.
