In 2008 myself and 3 therapists began and designed this program for children 2 1/2 - 5 years old with severe multiple impairments. I am the lead teacher for this program. Some of what I do is coordinate the multidisciplinary team that works with them, manage 3-5 paraprofessionals in the classroom, coordinate data collection, and monitor teaming/training of staff. We use everything from Braille and sign language to more sophisticated communication devices, as well as low tech strategies. We are a literacy based classroom meeting the needs of everyone in the manner that best meets their unique learning styles. The use of technology in the classroom is key to some of our success. We utilize the iPad, iPod, Tapit, Dynavox, Go Talks, and more. In addition I monitor health needs (as prescribed & trained by the school nurse) of all the children. I have experience with tube feeding, venting of g-tubes, replacing g-tubes, tracking and emergency care for seizures, use of afos, dafos, body braces, and much more. Some of the equipment we use are prone standers, supine standers, gait trainers, kaye walkers, creeper crawlers, and adaptive bikes. I have a lot of experience with children with visual impairments. I can braille simple books and adapt many materials for children with cortical impairments. I am very confident in adapting and meeting these children's needs.
