In my role as an RCP within a residential home for children and young people with ASD, the guiding aims of myself and my co-workers are to work within the established policies and procedures (particularly those regarding safeguarding, confidentiality, record keeping and health and safety), in order to meet and improve the outcomes for children and young people by ensuring that their physical, emotional and social needs are met, and to help in supporting parents emotionally and practically in the maintenance of their families. Within my position, I am responsible for a range of duties. This ranges from paper-based responsibilities such as understanding, contributing to, and creating care plans, risk assessments, and individual behaviour management plans, as well as liaising with other professionals in multi-agency teams within meetings and reviews, to more practical and hands-on responsibilities such as personal care of young people, and assisting their involvement in planned home activities.

During my time at Age UK North Tyneside, I enjoyed enhancing my skills within social media marketing. Within my capacity as marketing intern, I was offered the opportunity to create and deliver presentations to senior colleagues on ways in which the charity's social media presence could be increased, as well as liaisoning with outside contacts to increase our social media community. I've also become skilled in using Canva to design effective and eye-catching social media posts to encourage donation, volunteering, and general engagement with the public, as well as using ORLO social media analytics platform in order to schedule and manage social media posts on various platform, as a result of my time within this position. Another of my main responsibilities at Age UK North Tyneside included reacting to news pertinent to the charity (and to their partner social enterprise, EveryDay Care), and writing articles on such news as was relevant to our customers.

Assistant Cabin Leader

During the summer of 2018, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to work as an assistant cabin leader at Camp Stand By Me - the only camp in Washington state offering year round respite care for individuals with disabilities, managed by disability advocation nonprofit Easter Seals. In this capacity, I was responsible for maintaining the physical and emotional wellbeing of campers whose care needs ranged from 1:1 to 1:3 levels of care, aged seven upwards, on a twenty four hour, six days a week basis, as well as maintaining the wellbeing of counsellors working in less senior positions within my cabin. I was required to become knowledgable in both disability theory, and the more physical aspects of the position, (which included personal care, lifts and transfers, etc.).

As a writing intern for the 'Reflections of Newcastle' scheme at the Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle, I was responsible for studying and summarising information surrounding the effect of World War One on Newcastle. This required me to stick within strict deadlines and word counts, and ensure my writing was accessible to individuals from all social groups, with a particular aim of attracting new members to the society.
