The Mater Hospital relies on its volunteers to provide a range of services to patients, relatives and staff across many areas within the health service. As an Ambassador, I performed a variety of tasks and services where I developed my skills and competencies such as interpersonal skills, problem solving ability, researching hospital services, using my initiative, supporting team members, communicating with diverse groups of people and providing a high level of customer service. I specifically contributed by:⦁ Providing advice to patients on the location of specific services and escorting when required⦁ Talking to patients and relatives about services and increasing their confidence in what to do⦁ Listening to patients’ needs when they are faced with a problem so we can work out a solution⦁ Translating for Arabic patients and ensuring they are aware of the requirements of their visit⦁ Confidently dealing with people from diverse backgrounds with empathy and understanding⦁ Providing solutions at short notice to assist staff, patients and relatives achieve positive outcomes
