Until January I worked for the PPA an arm of the NHS within their Estates Department. The PPA currently own or rent 13 properties throughout England. Whilst with the PPA I wrote three specifications and designs, two for new fire alarm systems and one for a CCTV contract.- I also prepared two tenders, one mechanical, one electrical and carried out the design of services for the refurbishment of two floors within PPA properties. I worked on The Beehive, which was a newly finished refurbishment, the Paul O-Gorman building funded by Cancer Research, the Devonshire building that had completed practical completion but not fully handed over to the University. Robertson Group Construction is a Scottish company with an area office based in Newcastle with an annual turnover over approximately -10m within the region. Robertson-s North East region had three projects running concurrently, an apartment block with office complex on the Quayside in Newcastle, a community hospital in Chester Le Street and a school in Ingelby Berwick, both of which were PFI projects. I was largely responsible for the services sub-contracts at both St Ann-s Quay on the Quayside and the community hospital at Chester Le Street. Each contract had its own problems and differences in their construction and services installation methods. Apart from managing the services sub-contractors I was also responsible for the installation of the Statutory Services.

Motorola Site MOS17 is the largest semiconductor site in China. I was part of the hook-up team managing the installation of all services for semiconductor production tools. After completing my degree I returned to Sir Robert McAlpine's as a site manager looking after the building services sub-contractors. My main duties where to hold weekly package meetings with sub-contractors, ensure that the installation of services were installed correctly and safely and according to the design and specification. To co-ordinate the different services, liaise between the consultants and sub-contractors on all aspects of the design contracts. Carry out inspections at the manufacturers and insure that all procurement of main plant items arrived on time to site and to specification. Whilst at McAlpine's I worked on three projects: West Quay, Southampton West Quay was a ₤220 million shopping centre within Southampton. I was the package manager looking after Drake & Scull a ₤9 million mechanical subcontract and Colt International a ₤1.5 million pound fire safety sub-contract. Also I co-ordinated the interface of all services with the final finishes in the main shopping malls and the food court. 280 Bishopsgate, London 280 Bishopsgate is a ₤65 million office block being constructed for Hammersons a property developer. Here I was one of two building service managers looking after the services sub-contractor to a value of ₤15 million. This included all services required for a modern office block to be used by a major international bank. Atmel NTS North Tyneside Atmel took over the mothballed Siemens plant closed down two years earlier. At Atmel I was team leader of four area co-ordinators who managed the installation over one hundred major tools and 90 minor tools in a three and half month period

As part of a degree sandwich course, I spent 16 months working for Sir Robert McAlpine Limited at Siemens Microelectronics North Tyneside. My role was as an area co-ordinator looking after the installation of all services connected to the tools that manufactured the silicone chips in a clean room environment. Part of my duties was to ensure the sub-contractors where working safely and to the clean rooms protocol. As well as working as an area co-ordinator, I looked after the installation of a 4.5Mw Carrier chiller, 5.0Mw Viessmann boiler and a Haden Drysis VOC plant including all the associated services with the three items of plant as part of the base build ramp-up.
