Stuart was a key member of my Senior Leadership Team for a large GMPP programme, which comprised of several major change and transformation projects with multi-million pound budgets. Stuart brought a delivery focus to our digital engineering teams across the programme and utilised his product leadership skills to update the strategic roadmap and backlog, ensuring we were mitigating the riskiest parts of the project first and ultimately delivering value earlier in the project. Stuart also worked to improve transparency around planning and delivery predictability, which resulted in greatly improved confidence with senior stakeholders and sponsorship in the project. More specifically, Stuart did a great job of traversing the levels of detail from strategic benefit realisation through to restructuring the delivery squads and filling gaps where needed, often mentoring more junior members of staff. Stuart played a key role, in guiding a major programme of work through a transformation towards more agile ways of working and reducing friction where project vs product and operational boundaries met.

Stuart and I worked together on a HMRC project from May 2021 to January 2022. He as the Product Owner and I as Delivery Lead. The project was a legacy data warehouse move that involved transformation of ETL’s and we needed a PO that had the ability to engage stakeholders and multiple departments to prioritise the work for the team but also be able to understand what the existing service we were transforming from in prem into the cloud requirements were and stop any addition scope creep above required transformation. Stuart is approachable, empathetic and has an excellent ability to get what’s needed from stakeholders in an inclusive way. Making them feel relaxed and willing to work with the team. He was instrumental in quickly allowing us to gather more detailed requirements AB’s fill in gaps of knowledge missing that the previous PO/BA hadn’t had the time to do within discovery. He also created a dashboard and together with the team we sizing the work based on product backlog points relative to the complexity of our baseline feeds and from Thurs built a burn up to show the project team our level of progress against the timeliness the project. This is one of the few times if seen a PO create a way to track work and not relied on the Delivery Lead or Scrum Master to do this. He also held a number of user journey mapping sessions and requirement gathering workshops. As a team we worked really well together and Stuart was great to bounce ideas off and to give a different perspective to a problem. Stuart decided to leave the project once we’d recognised that the prioritisation of the needed was understood and that a BA would now be more beneficial to the project. I’d highly recommend Stu for a Product Ownership or strategic role.
