The Head of Operations position involves managing a team of sixty people, working in studio, gallery and administration, who are responsible for delivering BBC Sport content, from rugby and snooker, to the World Cup and Olympics. My role is to ensure staff have the support they need to produce the content for the client over a busy sporting year, helping them to maintain the high quality expected of BBC Sport output on all platforms.I budget, plan and negotiate rates with internal and external clients, making sure costings are correct. I oversee bookings for the crew and facilities, always with an eye on balance between the client and operational needs. There are regular meetings with heads of BBC Sport and other members of the Sport teams to ensure clients’ requirements are met, bringing solutions to problems that arise and following these through with the Farm teams when needed. The role involves planning staff progression alongside maintaining the freelance technical pool so that both meet business needs. Understandably I need to keep a good working relation with both staff and freelance workers, so keep in regular contact to make sure people are happy in their working environment. I work closely with HR on issues that arise and find solutions that are beneficial to all.

      • Nov 2018 - Apr 2019

Edit Producer for the daytime quiz, working towards the completion of 60 episodes to be delivered between December 2018 and February 2019. My role involved cutting the individual games, then compiling games to fit into a 45' time slot, whilst keeping the drama and comedy inherent in the show intact. The edited content needed to be cut to specific rules, but ones that could be changed if the need arose. Attention to detail was hugely important due to the complex nature of the multi cam studio record, as well as checking question overlaps or graphic mistakes on the drops or the GFX screen. I also wrote the VO for the pre-titles and selected the highlights of each edited episode, creating tension and teasing the more exciting moments of the particular show. Changes came from the Execs and Commissioner, they were completed where possible and if they couldn't be I found a solution or work around that satisfied both parties.

Edit produced the BBC2 switch over show for the 2018 Children in Need broadcast. I prepared the questions for the programme, which included writing and verifying, tailoring the questions so they would be suitable for children in the first part of the show and then funny but also challenging for the celebrities in the second half. When the show had RX I Edit produced the main programme, fact checking and fitting for time to accommodate four VTs, whilst maintaining the humour in the show. I then cut one of the appeal VTs, making it sympathetic and dramatic but eventually uplifting, in keeping with the content of the rest of the VTs. I worked with the CiN team to ensure the GFX were correct and had the right placement / duration, added the bug and stings throughout.

    • Producer
      • Sep 2018 - Oct 2018

Leading a team to compile a list and contact celebrities for the Celebrity Mastermind series, speaking with agents and potential guests to confirm their specialist subjects, helping them to make the right decision and be prepared for the show. As the celebrities were putting themselves on the line and in the spot light, I spent a lot of time reassuring them that they would enjoy the process and would adequately represent themselves on the day of record.I monitored the team to make sure work flows were adhered to and that the questions were taken through the production process, dealing with any issues that arose. Also during this time I Edit Produced a number of the heats for the Mastermind series as they became TX critical as the weeks went on. I made Exec and commissioner changes after my initial passes, then final viewed the shows for delivery.

Sourcing and clearing archive from around the world, organising researchers to make sure the footage was entertaining and meet the standards set for a pre-watershed show.I organised the transfer of the footage with tech support, then ran edits for two months, including stitching packages and links myself using Avid. I created three programmes for sign off from our legal team and the Executive Producer, then adjusted according to the notes from both. During this time, I was writing scripts for the packages and scripting links and VO for the show, and then recording these with our host over two days. Then I worked with an editor to drop these into the finished edits.I liaised with a GFX company and set designer as well as the studio representatives to make sure the lead up to the studio records ran smoothly and everything was covered on the RXs.

    • Assistant Producer
      • Jun 2017 - Dec 2017

Working with a small team to create and deliver the content for the quiz, making sure the team created content which was suitable for the audience and in keeping with BBC guidelines. There was a tight turn around in recording blocks so I had to keep the team motivated and also create content myself to make sure we delivered on time. I wrote factually correct scripts, booked guests from within the sports world via agents, organised and shot interviews and mystery guest shoots across the UK, editing these and other VTs for studio on Premier.

Terrific Scientific is a campaign for school children aged 9 -11, which aimed to get them to understand and enjoy science more. I came on in phase two and was tasked with creating two Investigations, contacting and forming relationships with scientists, charities and other companies to develop scientific ideas. I looked at different ways these partners could deliver online content that works within the curriculum and used by over 21,000 schools, as well as incentives for the schools to take part themselves. I also organised and went into schools to test experiments with pupils in classes in the UK.

    • Question Producer
      • Nov 2016 - Mar 2017

I led a team in the creation of the content for the new daytime series. I used creativity to deliver new and interesting round ideas, guiding the team with theirs in preparation to pitch them to the Series Producer. I maintained the highest quality of content through 20 shows to very tight deadlines, remaining organised and making sure the team were structured and all working at the required pace.I contacted and set out a tender process to GFX and database companies to facilitate in studio graphics, working through the potential companies pitches and selecting the final choices. In studio I briefed the presenter before the records, made last minute adjustments to the scripts and adjudicated for the records.

    • Assistant Producer
      • Jan 2014 - Nov 2016

Working as the sole Assistant producer on the general knowledge questions for Mastermind series 13 and the 2015 Celebrity Mastermind, using my experience from previous series to improve the systems that were in place and create sets of questions that were both fair and entertaining. I also worked with the Producer and an external and internal BBC team to help create a database of questions, testing the database and highlight faults. As part of 'EastEnders' 30th celebrations I put together a special EastEnders Mastermind special. I organised the question sets for the night and went to London for the live broadcast. The Mastermind sections of the programme were stripped across the hour long show, with John Humphrys presenting, whom I produced during the programme as well as scoring and working out logistics before the programme went live.
