Over my 5 years at AHG I implemented modernised software and procedures and was responsible for all design and detailing activities as the sole product engineer. Working in conjunction with the production, welding and quality control engineers - as well as procurement, machinists and external suppliers or clients - I was able to deliver a vast array of hydraulic cylinder designs for myriad applications and industries ranging from very small lightweight components used in specialist… Show more Over my 5 years at AHG I implemented modernised software and procedures and was responsible for all design and detailing activities as the sole product engineer. As a Detail Designer I was primarily responsible for the 3D CAD modelling and detailing of related drawings (using Solid Works & AutoCAD) for structural steelwork used in interfacing free issue/ third party supplied broadcast antenna systems to our clients' existing transmission structures. This work was undertaken for the UK digital switch-over (DSO) project; relating to the wholesale upgrade of our nationwide television transmission capabilities to Digital UHF. My major projects centred on the design of primary cantilever antenna interfaces and reserve wraparound antenna support steelwork, as well as related auxiliary structures such as internal & external access platforms, ladders, signal system support & cable routing systems, all of which had to meet stringent client specifications, as well as engineering structural checks and of course be designed in compliance with relevant British Standards of safety and ergonomics. As well as the generation of top-down 3D models and the production of fabrication drawings from these models, I was also required to attend site for design surveys - involving climbing/ working at height on masts up to 1000ft tall, for the purposes of surveying existing steelwork to aid further design, modelling & planning of new steelwork and its installation. Administrative responsibilities spanned general organisation of all critical communications and logging of e-mails into hard copies for auditing and indemnity purposes, despatching and filing of detail drawings, and also throughout my employment the implementation of a new design data management software system for the purposes of improved efficiency and stability in design as well as work load distribution throughout the design office. I was employed on a temporary basis over my summer breaks away from my university courses, I gained experience in the use of various numeric control machines and CMM systems for the production of displacement and rod end bearings. Some of the larger and more expensive components I worked on were for use by the likes of Airbus & Goodrich. The temporary position allowed me to build on my existing industrial experience and use a wider range of CNC machines than I had been exposed to at… Show more I was employed on a temporary basis over my summer breaks away from my university courses, I gained experience in the use of various numeric control machines and CMM systems for the production of displacement and rod end bearings.
