Bio
Bernardo Medeiros, CPSM
Aparna was the Procurement Manager over Component Repairs at American Airlines when we first started working together. Back then I was a newbie Commodity Manager, eager to take on the challenges involved with the recently announced bankruptcy proceedings. I had no idea at the time how much effort it would require to undertake the savings goals set up by upper management. Under Aparna’s leadership we were able to meet and surpass all of our goals; so much so that when she got promoted as a Sr. Procurement Manager to manage the Powerplant Team – managing the highest risk assets and spend (other than fuel) in the Maintenance & Engineering division – she brought me over with her. Several times I doubted our ability to meet the newer, much more stringent savings goals, but Aparna’s vision, determination and guidance allowed us to renegotiate and amend enough agreements so that under my commodities alone more than $60MM in savings had been placed under contract for the following five years, completely shattering expectations. My teammates at the time were equally challenged, and Aparna was able to maintain us focused and to develop an excellent rapport with all of us both in and out of the workplace, all despite the sometimes chaotic environment at the company due to the proceedings. Aparna is a force of nature, and her finesse, vision, and wit made her a fantastic manager to work with and learn from. As demonstrated by her performance leading two procurement teams at the (now) largest airline in the world, Aparna has shown to be adaptable, fearless, and a role model. Aparna possesses all the skills of a world class supply chain professional.

I had the pleasure of working with Aparna on projects while with Seventy Seven Energy. There won't come a day when you catch her unprepared. Not only is she diligent with research, but her diligence comes in understanding your needs and concerns about projects and then supporting the best supply decisions within timelines, data, and budgets. She's always willing to share her knowledge and keeps the priorities visible to all participants.
