Steve was a great help in getting my clients project through the city review process and getting a building permit issued so that construction could begin on schedule. I would recommend him to anyone needing the services of a professional architect

I was retained by MWA to assist with Schematic Design and Design Development for a National Guard Readiness Center in Delaware, Ohio. This large project (designed in collaboration with Poggemeyer Design Group) includes training space, office space, a gymnasium, vehicle maintenance facilities, locker rooms, and other related spaces. It will be attached to a city-owned recreation center (designed concurrently and now under construction) allowing shared use of various facilities. Construction of the Readiness Center will begin shortly after the Community Recreation center is completed.Work on the project was completed in Revit, and I was primarily responsible for the initial building model and coordination with the consulting engineers.

During my time at Ankeny Kell architects I advanced to become one of the firm's leading Project Architects. I developed a reputation for completing projects on-time, on-budget, and to the client's satisfaction. I was frequently entrusted with some of the firm's most challenging projects, in terms of complexity, schedule, client expectations or a combination of these factors. My work included numerous ice arenas, community centers, and other recreational projects. Other significant work included Red Robin restaurants, a Cambria manufacturing facility, the Roseville Public Works facility, and Oak Ridge Country Club.I was frequently called upon to provide technical design assistance on many of the firm's other projects and also gained some experience in specification writing. In addition, I played in a key role in developing and implementing the firms CAD/IT strategies, helped to develop project process guidelines, and initiated a monthly round-table discussion for the project architects/managers to help us learn from each others experiences.

Shortly after receiving my Masters degree, I returned to the Twin cities and began work at WCL Associates (then know as Wirtanen Clark Larsen Architects). I worked on numerous retail, multi-family housing, manufacturing and corporate projects for WCL.Though my initial responsibilities were primarily limited to construction documents/drafting, I rapidly became involved in all phases of projects, from Schematic Design to Construction Administration. By the time of my departure I was acting as an "Assistant Project Manager" -- meeting with clients, city planning staff, contractors and code officials.I was also involved in the firms IT efforts. I helped revise CAD standards and taught myself HTML to develop the firms first-ever website.

I began work at MIG as a part-time employee conducting and analyzing community surveys supporting their City Planning department.Shortly thereafter the firm was retained to prepare an Accessibility transition plan for the City of San Francisco's Parks department. I helped develop an assessment system for the project, supervised the field work and prepared the final report (documenting and prioritizing the improvements needed at over 500 individual park properties). The system we developed led to the publication of "The Accessibility Checklist" which I co-authored. I was subsequently involved in the revisions for the second edition of The Checklist and also two other publications put out by the firms publishing division.During this period I also conducted trainings on accessible facilities for numerous cities and supervised the assessment of facilities in many Eureka, The City of Industry, and other cities in California. When the firm's IT Manager left to pursue other opportunities, I assumed that role in addition to my other work. I was responsible for hardware and software purchases, system maintenance, software upgrades, general troubleshooting and the installation of the firm's first local-area-network.I left MIG in the fall of 2003 to pursue a Masters degree in Architecture at the University of Michigan.
