Bio

I met Stephen Somerdin in the fall of 2014 at ITT Technical Institute in Norwood, MA where I started as an Adjunct Instructor teaching general education and IT-related classes. Stephen and I came to Norwood around the same time; he was hired to manage the campus library and educate the students on utilizing the available resources. Based on my own observations, Stephen was able to build a good working reputation for himself rather quickly; he was highly regarded by students, as well as the faculty. Three months later, when I accepted the position of the Chair for the School of Information Technology I got a chance to work more closely with Mr. Somerdin on a broad range of campus projects, such as promotion of the Virtual Library and organizing student professional clubs, to which he was instrumental. In my opinion, Stephen was among the most valuable employees on campus. What perhaps strikes me most about Mr. Somerdin is his willingness to go the extra mile for our students, to make sure they learn as much as possible in and out of the classroom. Students always praise him for his friendly demeanor and competence. And I personally never ceased to be impressed by the breadth of Stephen’s knowledge and versatility of his computer skills. Stephen Somerdin is a highly intelligent, honest, compassionate individual as well as a very accomplished professional in his field, with the excellent working ethics. He has proved time and again to be a very talented educator who genuinely cares for the students. I always enjoyed our interactions both inside and outside work. I strongly believe that he would be a very valuable addition to any team he joins.

I provided adult reference services for the general population of Easton, MA. For much of my career, I was responsible for maintaining computers and the networked environment, as well as the scanners, printers, and all other related peripherals. I also created the revised website for my employer, and set up hundreds of eNewsletters and other subscriber based informational mailings on a regular schedule. Queens Library (known as the Queens Borough Public Library at that time) boasted the highest circulation of any public library in the world. Due to the high volume of reference questions in person and by telephone, it was an excellent training ground to provide customer service. I had the opportunity to work in a number of departments based on their needs including the Social Sciences, Business Science & Technology, the Young Adult Room, the Children's Room, and branch locations during a time of building renovation. I often did one-on-one technology training, and also conducted seminars on setting up a home based business using the resources of the library. Show less
