    • CDC UCLA Public Health Scholar
      • Jun 2023 - Present

The UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program provides undergraduate or recently graduated students the opportunity to explore the field of public health through hands-on training, structured workshops, group events, volunteering opportunities, and leadership and professional development. The program works with community-based organizations, health systems, government agencies, and others to offer scholars the unique opportunity to “learn by doing” public health in a large, urban city. Through internship experiences that focus on health equity, scholars work to advance the health of underserved populations by learning about the communities our partners serve, engaging with community members, and exploring the Los Angeles landscape while commuting on public transportation. I, as a CDC UCLA Public Health Scholar, had the amazing opportunity to work with my peers and colleagues through mentorship and professional workshops, to expand on my reasons for pursuing Public Health. As someone who is first-generation, I was never able to truly envision myself taking up space in Public Health advocacy and community building. This program allowed me to look deeper within my history to connect to the many communities I served alongside up until the end of this program! Working with my peers for the CDC Health Equity Posters, also challenged me to listen with more intentionality and delegate between all of us what was needed to make the presentation the best it could be. Coming from so many different backgrounds, I learned through my peers that our research is applicable to all of our walks of life and more! Cultural humility continues to be one of my most important pillars in my day-to-day life and what I envision my future in the field of Public Health to look like. Show less

    • Learning Department Intern
      • Jun 2023 - Present

As a Learning Development Intern, I worked closely with the rest of the Learning Department (2 other staff members) to educate and empower the staff working at ALL locations through The People Concern University. In this sector of the work, I connected with the Directors of each site to ensure the Learning Department could share and demo some of the courses we offer through the Summer Course Catalog, which we led and created ourselves! I also spearheaded the newly-made digest, which expands on what educational opportunities we have to offer our staff. The digest consists of multiple in-person, online, and hybrid opportunities for TPC staff to further their personal and professional development offered through other stakeholders and companies adjacent to the work we do at TPC. More specifically, I worked through the mechanisms and ways to make the process of sending out the digest to our staff more streamlined and airtight through Excel and Word. This internship was more of a staff-facing and staff-development role, which was definitely more challenging, giving me an opportunity to look at Public Health work through a different lens outside of on-site community work. • SPEAR Counselor
      • Aug 2022 - Jul 2023

SPEAR is one of five student-run, student-initiated projects within the Student Retention Center (SRC). As a SPEAR counselor, I had one-on-one sessions with students in the Pilipinx community at UCLA aiding them with resources and services that may meet their specific needs. I also spearheaded event planning within the different cultural retention projects in cross-community solidarity to create a more open, communicative, and healing space in our collective communities. • May 2022 - Jul 2023

The only history that is passed down from generation to generation in PCH is often through word of mouth (oral history) or through the pictures that members take throughout their time. Thus, with the absence of a Historian position on PCH staff, much of PCH’s history throughout the years has been “lost” as Staff and General Members' time with PCH end. With the Historian position, we seek to not only record PCH history from this point onward, but to also reflect and learn from PCH’s past.Furthermore, we have noticed inconsistencies in how PCH interns are developed across the different components. An intern’s ability to learn about the duties of PCH Staff Members and gain leadership skills is solely dependent on their component directors. Allowing PCH interns to sit in during Staff Meetings was a step in the right direction, however the Historians’ role in centralizing PCH Internship is much needed in order to bridge the gap and ensure that ALL interns are able to receive the same level of development with regards to leadership skills and PCH as a whole. • Health Fairs Director
      • Jun 2021 - Jul 2023

The Health Fairs component of PCH organizes and executes 3 health fairs each school year to provide free culturally relevant care and health education to underserved communities in order to address health care inequities. At these health fairs, we also provide basic health services including blood pressure screenings, body mass index/body fat percentage measurements, dental check ups, mammograms, glucose and cholesterol screenings, and healthcare professional consultations. These services are provided free of charge, as we believe that cultural, financial, and/or linguistic barriers should not prevent anyone from receiving the care they need.As a Health Fairs Director, I have been at the forefront of community engagement projects with my co-directors, meeting with community partners and curating health fairs, community health events, and other virtual-hybrid events (due to COVID-19). • Jun 2022 - Sep 2022

I worked at the AASC in hybrid format during the Summer of 2022 managing data entry, archival logistics, and worked with photoshop to collect and capture the history and archives of the UCLA Asian American Studies Center and it's program. I worked closely with my supervisor as a historian and archival data clerk using Microsoft Excel, Google Spreadsheets, working with PDFs and other formats for photoshop. I also collected scans made by my senior student workers to align and crop these formats, group them together in PDF files, and export them to the database. I learned a great deal about Asian American history as well as the history of the AASC at UCLA. Show less
