Negativity in the News and Hate Crimes

● Investigated the correlation between US hate crimes and news negativity using simple linear regression ● Pulled csv files from the FBI database for each year and using Mediastack APi pulled thousands of articles from news sources for each year ● Used VADER Sentiment Analysis API to calculate the negativity of each year then used those values to analyze whether there is a correlation ● Our findings showed that there was a correlation between hate crime statistics and news negativity Show less

Shadow Mapping Project

● Implemented a shadow mapping software on already existing models by first implementing Blinn-Phong Shading, a surface shading technique ● Before implementing Blinn-Phong Shading, a first pass is applied to the scene in order to visualize how much light each part of the scene is receiving ● Calculate each point’s light value and render the scene accordingly then adjust for shadow acne and a Perspective Shadow Map for a less pixelated shadow ● Project implemented in Visual C++ on Visual Studios 2019 and OpenGL API Show less
