Steve is a phenomenal and unique leader. He is one of small group of people who can devise clear and original strategies and then tether them to reality and deliver them.

Mark Carrol

Steve has a very collaborative personality, understands corporate challenges and always seeks to develop a sound business solution. He seeks the best outcome by understanding the needs of both parties when dealing with business issues. He displays strong industry knowledge gained though his desire to fully understood the facts relating to real life situations. Steve is comfortable around people and takes into account the need of individuals and the team in a measured way resulting in a very balanced outcome. This approach means he is able to get the most of his team and generate loyalty within the group.

An interim secondment from one of the JV partners, that saw me responsible for the property interests and health & safety for MTCnovo Ltd, owner of the London and Thames Valley Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs).In 2015, the UK Government privatised the majority of Probation Services to CRCs. The outsourcing was to Transform Rehabilitation Services in the UK. My role was to take the property aspect on a strategic footing, maximising property utilisation, and freeing up overhead cost for investment into probation offices that would better meet the needs of offenders. The first element I undertook was to establish the scale of the existing property portfolio and the structure that supported it, and determine how rationalisation would impact on the CRCs ability to deliver probation services. This revealed a heavy estates structure, and an over supply of property representing £18m of waste (over six years) that will now be reinvested into the overall service. Then came the fun bit. I engaged workspace consultants, probation staff and offenders in the high level design of the first Model Probation Office in Bromley. The changes made centered on creating a facility that enabled better engagement with offenders and collaboration of CRC staff. The first Model Probation Office is due to complete in March 2017

Eaga Clean Energy was a new and dynamic division within Eaga that has been established to dominate the UK renewable energy market, with a focus upon the Feed in Tariff scheme introduced by the government in 2010. The Clean Energy Programme had been set up deliver a £300m PFI. My role was to operate as a board member of Eaga Clean Energy and develop the Planning team to deliver a scalable business carrying out up to 5000 solar PV installations each month, with a detailed focus on the customer experience.Working for 3 months in the North East, my focus was to develop the planning processes that would underpin domestic surveys and installations of solar PV. This involved detailed process engineering, and large scale recruitment. Having established the necessary systems, the role developed into a more client facing one with accountability for the successful conversion of each Account Stream within the Clean Energy Programme. Through successful development of the overall business, the company was approached and sold to Carillion in 2012 for c.£320m

QinetiQ was an account that generated a total contract value of c.£530million in revenue for Amey. It operated through the UK, with 450 staff and an extensive supply chain. The role was to lead day-to-day services, improve the customer experience, improve financial performance and position the business to take full advantage of opportunities arising in its final year including mitigation of commercial liabilities. By integrating the knowledge and enthusiasm of thirty key leaders, I implemented an account wide improvement programme anchoring to five strategic themes. I addressed the customer relationship by establishing a more service focussed structure that actively led the national team to focus on the customer experience. I implemented analytical business tools to focus on strategic imperatives that energised site based improvements, particularly in the areas of statutory maintenance and financial rigour. I undertook an Activity Based Costing exercise that led to a head count reduction of 45 FTE’s, and took responsibility for and agreed beneficial positions on commercial matters that were exposing the business to full term profit erosion, and ongoing liability.
