In his role as Project Manager for Deakin University, our practice was engaged to undertake the design and delivery of the Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training at the Waurn Ponds Campus. As Lead Design Consultant for this innovative higher education project our design team worked collaboratively and closely on a daily basis throughout the project briefing, design and delivery, in his role to manage the project, management, client side. At all times, Steven was diligent, respectful, professional and always committed to achieving the project vision. With a challenging project time frame and fast track delivery methodology, Steven was instrumental in ensuring the project progress and momentum was always maintained and the broad range of client side stakeholders thoroughly represented throughout the process. It was a pleasure to work with Steven through this challenging project and our team would highly recommend him as a valuable asset to future project teams.

Deakin University undertook a brave and visionary approach to remodeling how the disciplines of Engineering should be taught within Australia. At the core of the vision is a 3 pillared approach bringing together for the first time the next generation of learners, under and post graduate teaching and industry into an open environment that removed lectures, put design thinking at the core and provided opportunity for true and meaningful engagement from primary school to PhD, from research to industrial deployment. To achieve this, a novel space was needed. A space that was visible, inviting and encouraged multilevel interaction. This space is the Centre for Advanced Design and Engineering Training (CADET) located on Deakin Universities Waurn Ponds Campus. As the senior programme manager I was responsible for complete over sight of the implementation of this ambitious undertaking. If not for Steven in his role as project manager for the construction of CADET, my ability to coordinate the many other aspects of the complete vision would have been constricted to say the least. Throughout the project, Steven’s positive outlook and can do attitude ensured that I could concentrate my time elsewhere confident in the knowledge that the construction of the facility would be delivered on time, on budget and to a level of fit and finish that exceeded all expectations. Steven is a high performer, a natural leader that presents a creative flair whilst maintaining strong focus on goals and targets. If not for him we would not have been able to deliver such a high quality and successful outcome in CADET.
