At Commerce Bank of Arizona, my focus is on the development of new and mutually beneficial banking relationships with commercial real estate developers and investors engaged in a variety of commercial real estate activities across the state. I've enjoyed financing these types of clients in this market for more than 30 years and bring a valuable perspective to the financing component of CRE development. Many roles over the 5 year life of this organization from involvement in the initial concept to the capital raise all the way through the sale of the bank. Most of the focus was on growing the loan portfolio with quality assets and profitable banking relationships. It was an interesting time with exposure to all aspects of community banking. During this break from banking, I partnered with a trusted friend in the development and custom homebuilding business. After a hugely successful but all consuming 6 year run, culminating in the development of a 50 custom home, gated community, we parted ways to focus our attentions on pursuits that enabled us to spend more time with our families. After completion of a rigorous 18 month credit training program, I was placed in a loan review function gaining exposure to all lending diciplines in The Arizona Bank (subsequently acquired by Security Pacific). After a successful 18 months in that position, I joined the Commercial Real Estate department of the bank as a junior lender. Within a few years my portfolio topped $260 million in loans outstanding. Following the SecPac acquisition, and after a 6 month stint in the Costa Mesa office, I came back to Arizona as the Real Estate Division senior credit officer for the southwest region and remained in that role through the acquisitioin of SecPac by BofA, leaving about a year later.
