  SCREEN Holdings Co., Ltd. headquartered in Kyoto Japan, was established in 1943 as Dainippon Screen, a manufacturer of photographic reproduction equipment offering a wood frame process camera. Although, the origins date back to 1868 as The Ishida Kyokuzan Printing Works company developing patents for transparent film letterpress and glass screens for photographic reproduction of halftone plates in the early 20th century. Today, SCREEN has annual sales exceeding $3 billion US and 6,000 employees worldwide. From the invention of the Auto Graver for engraving halftone blocks and color-compensated separations in the early 1960's, to the first color scanner and the record setting SG-701 drum scanner in the 1970's, to the electronic page markup/photo retouch Sigmagraph in the 1980's, to the release of computer-to-plate (CTP) recorders in the 1990's for which Screen has #1 market share to this day, to the development and release of inkjet printers for the 21st century, SCREEN has been a major contributor to the printing, packaging and graphic arts industry.
