Steven Evans is executive director of the award-winning arts organization FotoFest International, which created the first and longest running international Biennial of Photography and New Media Art in the U.S. Appointed in 2014, he is responsible for leadership, administration, fundraising, exhibitions, art programs, and FotoFest Biennial organization. Evans co-curated the FotoFest 2018 and 2016 Biennial central exhibitions INDIA/ Contemporary Photographic and New Media Art and CHANGING CIRCUMSTANCES: Looking at the Future of the Planet. He co-edited and contributed introductory essays for the hardcover books of the same titles. He regularly represents FotoFest at photography events around the world. FotoFest's purpose is to promote the exchange of art and ideas through international programs and the presentation of photographic art. Its programs work globally and locally, bringing together an international vision of art and cross-cultural exchange with a commitment to community involvement and the enrichment of Houston's cultural resources. In addition to its internationally known Biennial, FotoFest sponsors year-round programs - exhibitions, international exchange programs, and publications. In grades 3-12, FotoFest also operates a year-round classroom learning program, Literacy Through Photography, using photography to strengthen writing skills, visual literacy, and cognitive learning.

At the Dia Art Foundation, Evans was an integral part of the team that successfully transformed a former Hudson Valley box factory into a world-renowned museum for Dia’s collection, and became its Managing Director. In that role, Evans was responsible for administrative and programmatic aspects of Dia:Beacon’s operations, overseeing such critical successes as the Merce Cunningham Dance Company residency at Dia:Beacon.

As Operations Deputy for Dia Art Foundation, Evans worked on Dia's capital projects in New York City and in Beacon, NY. From late 1999 - 2003, he devoted his efforts to the renovation of a 1929 Nabisco box-printing plant into Dia's museum for its collection of primarily minimal and conceptual art. Evans was part of a on-site owner's representative team which oversaw all aspects of the renovation.
