I was employed by RWE nPower for my final year University project. I developed a mobile data capture application that worked offline and synchronised the data with a central server when a network connection was available. I worked as part of a team to rewrite a plant inspection application from the ground up utilising a third party mobile application development framework. The application allowed users to manually enter readings for items of plant into a PDA for later import into a central IT system. I also researched the use of RFID products and produced a set of recommendations for use with the plant inspection application. Based in the Process Control Section I worked as part of the team responsible for the day to day running and maintenance of both the plant (SCADA) and business IT systems. My major project was the design and development of a plant alarm logging application that enabled post incident analysis. I worked with potential users to capture requirements and then implemented and tested the system before finally providing user training.
